Alpacas are members of the camelid family and are native to the Andean Mountain Range of South America; primarily in Peru, Bolivia and Chile. They are fiber producing animals and thereby qualify as livestock. They are alert, intelligent and curious social animals who seek the companionship of other alpacas, llamas and occasionally people. They communicate with each other through their body language and through softly humming to each other. (This is why we chose Hummingwood to be our farm name.)
